“On 10 February, TheCityUK organised the UK-Azerbaijan Financial and Related Professional Services Working group Forum, hosted by The Law Society of England and Wales. The Forum, held as part of the UK-Azerbaijan Joint Intergovernmental Commission, was supported by the British Embassy in Azerbaijan and included contributions from CISI, ICAEW and the London Stock Exchange.
Welcome remarks were given by Khaqani Abdullayev, Deputy Head of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan and co-Chair of the working group and Robert Burns, Vice President of The Law Society of England and Wales.
The first half of the programme included sessions on Legal Service and Corporate Governance and also Corporate Governance. Gary Campkin, Director, International Strategy, TheCityUK, and co-chair of the UK-Azerbaijan working group, delivered the welcome remarks to the second part of the programme that considered UK-Azerbaijan Economic Collaboration and Opportunities and also Financial Education, Training and Qualifications.
Islamic finance was a further feature of the agenda, enabling panellist Stella Cox, Managing Director of DDCAP Group, to comment on the UK’s Islamic financial architecture and potential areas for co-operation between the UK and Azerbaijan in Islamic finance and related professional advisory services.”
