Based around the banner ‘Where Theory Meets Practice’ this was the latest in a series of annual events from NBAD, and their first focused on Islamic finance. With presentations on the more esoteric aspects of Islamic Finance, the workshop was deliberately aimed at the more sophisticated practitioner with an extremely high calibre panel that included representatives from DDCAP and Norton Rose as well as one of the worlds leading Sharia’a Scholars, Sheikh Nizam Yaquby.
The forum was moderated by Thomson Reuters and considered Sukuk Issuance, Repo, Profit Rate Swaps plus an array of other innovations. The Delegate list was equally renowned, with guests from across the MENA region as well as from Europe and the Far East.
DDCAP jointly presented alongside Norton Rose, before a formidable Q&A session ensued.
Following an excellent luncheon that was enjoyed by all and sponsored by DDCAP, the delegates divided up into workshop groups, co-ordinated by Thomson Reuters, which put the morning’s presentations into practice.
The Head of Islamic Institutional Coverage at National Bank of Abu Dhabi, Mark Pritchard, thanked DDCAP in particular for their generous support which added considerable prestige to the event.
When surveyed after the event, one attendee commented: ‘Thanks for hosting the Global Islamic Finance market workshop and providing us with an opportunity to interact with the best minds in the industry on the subject of Islamic Banking.’
