BBP Finance Event: Wednesday 30th October 2013 3:45 – 6:00pm

In Financial Services, the Global Financial Centres Index continues to rank London as the world’s leading international financial centre. Holding the World Islamic Economic Forum (29-31 Oct) in London is an excellent opportunity for us to showcase our specialist expertise, wealth of services and outstanding academic institutions in Islamic Finance.

“The potential of this sector to expand by £400 billion in the next two years presents a huge opportunity for the UK’s financial services sector. We established the Ministerial-led Islamic Finance Task Force earlier this year to make sure that we are able to really capitalise on this. I am delighted that through this event, we have a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate what the UK can offer and why we are so well positioned to become the global centre for Islamic Finance”

Baroness Warsi, Senior Minister of State at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and Minister for Faith and Communities, and Co-Chair of the Islamic Finance Task Force

The BBP finance event will develop the themes of the wider WIEF and consider them from a specific UK point of view. It will demonstrate how UK expertise can meet the needs of governments, business and investors and provide an excellent platform for participants to network with potential business partners. There will also be a specific focus on the opportunities in our infrastructure programmes and our expertise in education, skills and research.

The ‘Investing in the UK’ breakout session will examine recent and current investment projects in regeneration and real estate. It will provide a number of perspectives, including from legal and financial experts, the view of the investor and the Government. This is aimed at those interested in understanding and accessing the wealth of investment opportunity in the UK.

The Islamic Finance Education and Skills’ breakout session will look at current developments in the provision of education and look at what is on offer in the UK. It will consider issues around forming alliances with overseas organisations, excellence in training young UK Sharia scholars and ways of promoting excellence in education, skills and research. This session is aimed at education providers and users.

High level and expert speakers will include:

  • Greg Clark MP, Financial Secretary to the Treasury
  • Richard de Belder, Partner, Dentons
  • Stella Cox (DDCAP)
