Islamic Finance Council UK (UKIFC) issued a post event press release, as follows:
“Organised by IsDB, in partnership with the Islamic Finance Council UK (UKIFC) and the Global Ethical Finance Initiative (GEFI) the session formed part of the UKIFC’s Global Islamic Finance & the UN SDGs Taskforce and GEFI’s Path to COP26 Faith in the SDGs workstream.
It was a very fitting celebration of the work of former IsDB President Dr Bandar Hajjar and the IsDB team, to foster innovative and sustainable solutions that seek to address the world’s greatest development challenges, as encapsulated by the SDGs. You can access a digital copy of the book by visiting https://strategy.isdb.org/road-sdgs.
On the day, former IsDB President Dr Bandar Al Hajjar presented some of the key findings of the book, highlighting the work that the IsDB has done towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Dr Hajjar then handed over to UN Deputy Secretary General Amina J. Mohammed, who explained the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the SDGs and the potential of Islamic finance to address this.
A lively dialogue then followed with Prof. Jeffrey D. Sachs, Director at Columbia University’s Centre for Sustainable Development, Dame Susan Rice, Chair of the GEFI Global Steering Group, Prof. Ismail Serageldin, Found Director of Bibliotheca Alexandrina and Stella Cox, CBE, Managing Director of DDCAP Group all sharing their insights on some of the key themes from the book.”
